Summer Cycle
Despite the very warm weather it is time for a ride
Through the veil of the canopy a cyclist can glide
Always best to leave early before the day gets too hot
One can always rest briefly in a safe and cool spot.
I startled a red fox, and he didn’t look back
Running up through the paddock then across to the track.
A flock of superb parrots sat high up in the trees
Their emerald foliage camouflaged by the leaves.
As the horizon grows hazy and the cicada wings hum.
Drying dams become tepid from the bite of the sun.
Sheep gather in circles under plants bearing shade
Watched closely by wildlife - refugees in the glade.
While pondering pastures that are devoid of green grass
I pull over to let several grain trucks go past.
With luck all the farmers will have a high yielding crop
And reap the rewards from hard work round the clock.
I peddle on further and then suddenly I brake
I’ve mistaken a brown piece of bark for a snake!
With a heart beating like thunder I see clouds start to form
Let’s hope we get some decent rain from this storm.
The humidity is rising so best to head home
But not before taking some shots on my phone.
To capture the moment, and timely I think
To seek out some shelter and a nice long cold drink.
