Our Christmas break-up was held at Kay and Peter Dean’s home at Morven, and the weather was kind, making it a very enjoyable time of fellowship and friendship finishing with a delicious lunch.
We held our last Land Cookery for the year, the results were – Light Fruit Cake, 1st Margaret Hasler, 2nd Lyn Jacobsen, 3rd Lyn Lieschke: Plum Pudding, 1st Lyn Jacobsen: Microwave Strawberry Jam equal first, Margaret Hasler and Lyn Lieschke: Tomato Jam, 1st Margaret Hasler.
We hope everyone had a nice break, and now it’s back to reality and the start of a new year. We are welcoming some new members to our Branch, which is very exciting.
It is our turn to donate the raffle for the Group Council Meeting, which is being held at Uranquinty on Monday, 24th February and Nett has offered to mosaic a mirror for this purpose.
We have been asked to cater for a morning tea at Bunnings at the end of January, and plans are in hand.
Henty Show is being held on Saturday the 8th February, and we are looking for items for our entry which, please note has to be submitted early. Anyone who has been busy over the break and has made a suitable item, can you please contact Lyn on 0428690222. We also have the Group Handicraft and Land Cookery Day coming up next month, so we are encouraging our crafty ladies to get busy.
Incidentally, McKenzie’s Foods have some great free e-books available to download – I checked them out because there was one on the many uses of Bi-Carb Soda (very interesting) however there are many more if you’re interested. The website is www.mckenziesfoods.com.au/ebooks
We were very excited on Australia Day that at the Greater Hume Shire Celebrations, our Life member, Narelle Morey and her son Jason were given a special Community Recognition Award from the Henty community as a thank you to them and Narelle’s parents, Les and Mary Dale beforehand for the contribution that Dales IGA have made to Henty over the past 72 years! So well deserved!
We wish both Margaret Hasler and Eunice McRae a speedy recovery as they have both been on the sick list.
Our next meeting is to be held on Wednesday,12th February at 10.30am at the Albury Commercial Club, and we look forward to having some new ladies join us. Everyone is most welcome, whether you’re interested in crafts, cooking, international work, the environment or whether you just want some different company, we’d love you to join us!
Any enquiries, please call Lyn 0428690222.

The new year has arrived with a lot of sadness with the passing of the beloved Bob Jacobsen. Living much of his lifetime at Pleasant Hills and being an active volunteer in the township with many organisations including the Community Pub. Whether it be working behind the bar, a committee member, helping at working bees, getting supplies and the very important job of counting and banking the pub takings with Margie for so many years. Our sincere sympathies go out to Margie and the extended family at this difficult time.
The pub has some new shirts available to purchase displaying the new logo and a new maroon colour.
Pub has been busy with good crowds most weekends especially the Christmas Party and the day of the Vintage Harvest Day at Kerry Pietsch’s.
The National Farmers is hosting their AGM meeting at the pub on Friday 7th February.
The pub is having a 25th Birthday Celebration on Saturday 8th March with Wobbly Boot playing out the front of the pub with the road being closed to allowed plenty of room for dancing, food vans. A chance for all to enjoy.
The next drum muster is supposed to be scheduled for Monday 17th March but unless the compound is emptied before then it’s going to be a little difficult to host one. There is only so many times that I can hound them.
Would like to wish you all the best for 2025.

December meeting:
What a lovely way to finish 2024 Patchwork at Pleasant Hills with our stitching friends. There was plenty of fun with a Trivia Challenge, Blindfolded Needle Threading, Fastest Button Sewer and Coin toss for Secret Santa, Banquet of yummy food and of course Show and Tell.
A trading table was suggested and accepted as well, so if you have surplus of anything and would like to sell or give away bring it along but be prepared to take it back home if not sold or taken. Bring extra money with you each month now in case you see something you want to buy; you won't know what's there until the day.
January meeting:
Our January meeting saw 17 ladies attend where many participated in the mystery quilt which involved using half square triangles to create different patterns. The trading table was very popular with new and second-hand fabric, jelly rolls, lace, sewing notions and supplies, and even excess fruit and vegetables from our gardens.
Our next meeting is on Saturday 15th February and is a UFO day. Bring your unfinished projects, sewing requisites and sewing machine, along with your lunch, $6 cash for hall hire and if you have anything for the trade table bring it along also.
Don’t forget Henty Show is on Saturday 8th February, so if you have anything to enter in the show that would be great. Entries need to be registered and paid for by Friday 7th February, and need to be at the Pavilion by 8am Saturday 8th February for judging.

Tennis Club
The Pleasant Hills Tennis Club is saddened by the passing of Life member, Bob Jacobsen. He was so loved by all & did so much for the club over many years. Our sympathy to Margie & the Jacobsen & Willis families on their loss.
Work commenced on the two top courts this week so it will be wonderful when they’re done. We’re very thankful to the Lockhart Shire for this project.
Sec 3a remains undefeated, sitting on top of the ladder. We’ve been fortunate to have two new recruits this year; Sally & Shoney. We also welcome back Sam Terlich. We’re lucky to have Tom Janetzki returning for 9 weeks of coaching, commencing Friday, 14 Feb. Please call him on 0493 378 213 if you’re interested.

Wise Words for 2025
“Don’t prioritise your looks my friend, as they won’t last the journey. Your sense of humor though, will only get better with age. ... These are the things which will only get better.”
