They say time flies, but is this the truth? Days turn to weeks, months into years, Are happy times remembered long after our youth? Or did we just spend time chasing careers?
When we were young and so full of beans, The days began early, expecting a blast, With age we eat slowly not forgetting our greens, And sit with a cuppa and think of the past.
Isn’t it funny, uncanny and cruel? Our dreams are still big, our intentions still true, Getting down on the floor can be a bit of a duel, But getting back up can make one quite blue.
When once we ran down to the shop for a snack, Pocket money spent we ran back with glee, Now a trip in the car to make sure we don’t lack, Don’t overspend the pension cause nothing’s for free.
In our teens we were happy, with friends we had fun, We partied all night to the wee small hours, Now an afternoon nap when our chores are all done, And dreams of the garden with veges and flowers.
Life was spontaneous, excitement we thirst, Til one found a partner and kids came along, The priorities changed, the family came first, Nighttime parties replaced with a child’s bedtime song.
When we were young without a care in the world, We’d invent ways to hunt, hide, ride and play, If only our mums knew what mischief unfurled, They’d wrap us in cotton and keep us inside all day.
Now advanced in years and starting to grey, We look back with fondness to a time with less worry, Good times, some sad times, now all gone away, Reaching the years means there’s no need to hurry.
