Indian Hawkers
Indian hawkers were a common sight in the district around 1910, traveling in covered wagons drawn by two horses. These vans were filled with material, general drapery, and clothing, providing a vital service to families in isolated areas.
Children were always delighted to see the goods for sale. Notable hawkers who visited the district included Sanda Singh, Rutten Singh, Essa Singh, Rule Singh, and Mitta Singh. These traveling businessmen sought permission to camp at local farms as part of their regular routine. One humorous story tells of a hawker's turban causing a farmer's horse team to nearly bolt in surprise!
Urangeline East Primary School
Interesting research has revealed that the old school building from Urangeline East was eventually relocated and reused as the Table Top School building.
I also came across a vintage Rawleigh’s Guide, which provides a fascinating look at historical livestock health problems and the products used to treat them at the time.
