Our monthly meeting was a very busy one, held in Henty, where we were delighted to welcome new members and visitors, making it our biggest attendance at a meeting for several years.
Member Recognition
We had a number of presentations for some very surprised members:
- Margaret Hasler was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation for her many years of service to the Country Women’s Association, particularly as our chief jam spreader at street stalls.
- Heather Barrett and Heather Edwards (both former Henty Evening members) were presented with their CWA Fifty Year Membership badges and certificates.
- Nett Maloney accepted a Scholarship Certificate from Phillip Group for her grandson, Flynn, who was awarded $350 towards school expenses.
Scams Awareness and Community Support
Guest speakers Stephanie and Sharon from Bendigo Bank in Henty provided a very informative talk on scams, a topic we all need to be aware of. In response to recent disasters, members decided to donate $500 each to Blazeaid and the CWA of NSW Disaster Relief Fund. This year's Riverina Group Project is Care South, a not-for-profit organisation operating out of Wagga Wagga.
Competition Success
Our branch performed exceptionally well at the Riverina Group Handicraft & Land Cookery Day in Collingullie:
- Handicrafts: Our branch came second overall in the Group competition. Carol’s piece of Assisi Work won first prize in the Chairperson’s Award and has gone on to State Finals. Junior member Jessica Maloney won the Junior Craft Award with a wall hanging, also progressing to State Finals.
- Land Cookery: In a record field of 111 entries, Pleasant Hills again came second overall. All five of our junior cooks won prizes:
- Natalie Hasler: 3rd prize, Chocolate Cake (under 18).
- Lachlan Barker: 2nd prize, Packet Cake.
- Samantha Terlich: 3rd prize, Packet Cake.
- James Terlich: 2nd prize, Decorated Patty Cakes.
- Connor Barker: 3rd prize, Decorated Patty Cakes.
- Open Section: Margaret won two firsts, while Kay and Lyn J each won a first prize, alongside numerous second and third prizes.
