The History of "Truro" (Part 1)

In a 1985 letter to Max Hogg, Everett Jelbart recounts the history of the "Truro" property, purchased in 1925 after its severance from "Wallandool". Everett chose the name "Truro" after the Cornish town near where his grandmother was from.

When they first took possession, Everett lived in a cook's galley attached to the shearers' quarters. The home now standing on the property was built using the framework of dismantled sleeping galleys. Everett lived there as a bachelor for ten years before marrying in 1938.

Rifle Club Update

Following last month's history piece, Ellis Jelbart shared a trophy won by his father, Alan Jelbart, in 1936 with the Pleasant Hills Rifle Club. The cup was originally called the "Waverly Cup" and was later renamed the "Browne Aggregate". Ellis has kindly donated the trophy for permanent display at the Pleasant Hills Community Hotel.
