The Winds of Change

The departure of winter is a sigh of relief, No more cold frosty mornings wearing coats lined with fleece. But an unwelcome visitor has blown open the door, As strong howling winds have arrived with a roar.

Dry dusty gusts greedily gobble up the rain, Leaving farmers to ponder if they planted in vain. Large trees lurch dangerously and lean to the side, Some silly galahs use wild thermals to glide.

They are the only ones crazy enough out on the wing, Like the bravest of trapeze artists doing their thing. Many horses are unsettled as they pace up and down, There’s an almighty crack as a branch hits the ground.

But finally near nightfall the squalls start to ease, And the laugh of a kookaburra floats on the breeze. As the familiar song echoes it soothes like a balm, And the silvery moonlight restores nature to calm.
