The Pleasant Hills Rifle Club was formed in 1936. The first President was Mr S Klemke and the Captain was Mr WC Browne. The club had 32 members, with shooting held on Saturday afternoons at a range north-west of Pleasant Hills. The club went into recess in 1966.
Recently, I cleaned some silver trophies at the Hotel and found one from the Rifle Club inscribed: Pleasant Hills Rifle Club 1938 The Browne Aggregate Won by W A Groch.
Reports from 1938 show that the "Browne Cup" was a major trophy donated by Vice-Captain Browne. It’s heartening to see these pieces of heritage saved from landfill and preserved at the Hotel.
