In the rugged wilderness with plains up on high
Our Australian brumbies dance under the sky
Co-existing with nature for many a year
Living freely together with not much to fear.
Their heritage is precious, their stories are told
Their unbridled beauty a sight to behold.
They pick their way carefully through valleys and creeks
And graze on the hillsides topped with snow covered peaks.
...
But sadly these equines are now under threat
From ivory towers new rules have been set.
Authorities have come to a verdict that stands,
Government and bureaucrats with blood on their hands.
These beauties face danger from which they can’t run,
A volley of bullets fired straight from a gun.
Out of aerial patrols that loom up overhead,
Pigs, goats and foxes also riddled with lead.
...
So long live the brumby, a plea we must make
Action is needed to save history at stake.
Such magnificent equines, so iconic and free,
May they thrive and prosper for our children to see.
