The Esplanade

The Esplanade has always been shown on the earliest maps of the Village dating from the late 1800’s. At first it was Knobles Esplanade. Then when they changed the original names of the village streets the Esplanade was also changed to Bridges Esplanade. J. Knoble was actually a soldier in the Boer War, but we have no further information at this time.

Mr. Owen Dunlop was the head teacher at the Pleasant Hills Primary School, appointed in 1988 and into the 1990’s. During his time the village entered the Tidy Towns challenge and did very well over a number of years. The village put the award to good use by doing up the Esplanade, planting trees and adding name plates in the form of metal stakes and a track through the wooded area.

Mr. Dunlop moved on to the Burrumbuttock Primary School, where he started an environmental educational centre which has received state, national and international acclaim, providing an outdoor environmental education centre for Primary School to University Students.

The Esplanade project continued to be supported in the community by Susan Creek; her passion for our natural environment continued up until her passing a few years ago.

Pre-School 50th Anniversary

The first meeting of the Pleasant Hills Pre-School was held on the 7th March 1972, and the first session was held on the second week of July of the same year. This year marks the 50th anniversary.

Does anyone have any memorabilia or photos from the last 50 years of the Pre-School they wish to share with the community? I can copy them without removing the items.
