At the Greens Gunyah Museum at Lockhart there is a large dray that was donated to the museum a while back. On the main beam under the deck of the dray is the name H. E. Lindner, Pleasant Hills. Built by James Bennett, 19/6/1923, St Mary’s, South Creek NSW.
Heinrich Ernest Lindner was born, the 3rd son, the 5th of 10 children of Carl August Lindner and Johanna Louisa Bertha (nee: Burdack). Heinrich was the second generation born in Australia. Carl August (Heinrich’s father) married Johanna Burdack the same year as he selected land, “Wattle Park” at Pleasant Hills in 1886. In 1936 Carl August died when a car crushed him against a truck at the Pleasant Hills train station.
In 1951 “Wattle Park”, owned by Mr H. E. Lindner, consisting of 649 acres of mixed farming, was sold to Mr A. Hahn.
Mr James Bennett, coach and wagon builder of St Marys, Sydney, exhibited a handsome table-top white tyre wool painted wagon in 1894. His wagons have become well and favourably known throughout New South Wales.
