State Conference Success

Our CWA Branch has had a most successful month! At the State Conference, we had a very unusual happening — our Branch took home three first prizes at the State level. This in itself is probably a record, but the fact that all recipients were named Lyn (Lyn Lieschke, Lyn Jacobsen, and Lyn 'Nett' Maloney) is truly quirky and something for the history books!

Lyn Lieschke won first prize with her Plain Butter Cake, with the judges commenting on what an outstanding cake it was — apparently the best cake there according to the judge’s comments in The Land newspaper. Lyn Jacobsen took first prize with her Boiled Fruit Pudding, while Nett Maloney won first prize in the photography section!

Regarding the Land Cookery, the Riverina Group was the only Group to get two first prizes in the State, and the fact that they were both from the same Branch is something I don’t recall ever happening before. Nett Maloney also had an article in Riverina Group’s Handicraft display, while her granddaughter, Jessica, received a second prize in the eight years and under handicraft section.

Medical Projects and Fundraising

At the State Conference, Ovarian Cancer was the Medical Project for the past twelve months, and a cheque for more than $36,000 was raised. It has also been declared as our Medical Project for the coming year, marking the fourth year we have helped them.

Members at home were busy cooking for a Mother’s Day Street Stall at Bunnings, which was our most successful stall yet. We will have another Street Stall in June. Additionally, we have received a generous offer of a mosaic bird bath to raffle in the future.
