A decent drop of rain we crave, it’s such a fickle beast It always seems to have its way when it is needed least It’s not welcome at harvest time or when you’re making hay And if your washing line is full then it will rain all day.
A sudden flash of lightning means a good chance of a storm A welcome summer shower would be awesome on the lawn The plants and trees are wilting, and the tanks are getting low Yet despite the harsh conditions the weeds will always grow.
It’s unwelcome in the city when you’re running for a bus Or at an outdoor concert where it causes too much fuss Cloud formations tease us as the paddocks turn bone dry And hot and dusty farmers gaze forlornly at the sky.
It’s not much fun at football or any outdoor sport you choose You end up soaking wet and cold with soggy muddy shoes And if you’re pouring concrete it will rear its ugly head I like to hear it on my roof, at night when I’m in bed.
So akin to feast or famine, be it flooding or in drought It seems we are all chalk and cheese when there is rain about We’ll measure what is in our gauge then compare it with next door And hope it’s not far down the track before the next downpour.
