Effective as of Wednesday 1 February 2023, fire permits will be available across the Riverina Zone.
Non-Standard Conditions
In addition to standard permit conditions, the following local conditions will apply:
- No burning before 1400 hours;
- Minimum of 2 fire units must be in attendance;
- Burns are to be completely extinguished prior to being left unattended;
- No timber of any nature may be burnt;
- No burning on Public Holidays;
- Permits for Sunday burning will be issued on a case-by-case basis by the FCC
Note: Permit Officers may strengthen permit conditions or reject requests for a permit at their discretion should they feel that a particular burn holds too much risk.
Careless & Illegal Fires (RFS Legal Process)
There is a growing emphasis from Head Office at ensuring that all careless and illegal fires are investigated and appropriately followed up. Triggers for the RFS Legal Process include escaped burns, permit conditions not being met, failure to notify (24 hours), leaving fire unattended, and lighting fire without permit.
These follow up actions include community education, formal cautions, or penalty infringement notices (PIN).
