This being the last newsletter before Australia Day, I thought I would touch on the pride to be an Australian. And closer to home, pride in our local Pleasant Hills community. I recently took a closer look at the Tidy Towns Awards the town and local community has been awarded over the years.
Look at all our community has achieved:
- 1992: Heritage Award for the Old Lutheran Cemetery.
- 1994: Cultural Heritage of the Pleasant Hills Public Hall.
- 1995: Wildlife Habitat and Corridors (The Esplanade).
- 2000: Winner of Cultural Heritage Conservation (Community Hotel) and Wildlife Corridors (Public Watering Place).
- 2003: 1st Place for Tidy Town, Bush Spirit Award, and Wildlife Conservation (Mundawaddery Cemetery).
- 2004: Highly Commended for Friendly Town and Wildlife Conservation.
- 2007: German Heritage Day (Cultural Heritage) and Friendly Town.
- 2008: 3rd Place Overall Tidy Town.
- 2011: 1st Place Overall Sustainable Communities Award.
As well as the Tidy Towns Awards, Pleasant Hills has also been acknowledged for other community participation, such as the Alma Park/Pleasant Hills Landcare Group being State Finalists for Community Group of the Year in 2003. We should all be extremely proud of our community.
