We usually have our International Meeting at the Pleasant Hills School each August, cooking lunch for everyone with dishes from the current Country of Study, but this year due to Covid restrictions, we had to change plans, so we met in Albury. Marie Solyk, our International Officer gave us a great general outline of Malaysia, with members each contributing something they’d found out about the country to add to the general discussion.
On the Saturday previous to our meeting, the State held an International Zoom Seminar which some of us had watched, and several photos taken from some of the slides were shown.
As everyone knows, Henty Field Days has been put on hold at this stage, so we now wait to see if it can be held in March.
We had our representatives attend the recent Group Council Meeting. The Group is in the process of purchasing an Eftpos facility for the use of the Group, but since we’re further away, it was suggested we look into the possibility of purchasing our own. The Riverina Group Conference is to be held on Wednesday, October 13th.
CWA of NSW has just donated $50,000 to Foodbank for Western NSW. A couple of months ago, our Branch donated $1000 to the Emergency Fund, so we feel we actually contributed to this generous donation.
Some thought is going into what we can do to mark the 100th Anniversary of CWA of NSW next year – any ideas will be greatly appreciated. The Group is having a Garden party as one of its events.
Land Cookery
In the Land Cookery this month we had the Junior Cooking competition, which was an Orange Cake, won by Natalie Hasler.
Open Section (Plain Cake):
- Lyn Lieschke
- Lyn Jacobsen
- Margaret Hasler
Next month we will have an Orange Cake and scones – 12 scones cut with a 2 inch cutter! This year’s schedule is marking the 70th Anniversary of Land Cookery, and they have many of the original items in this schedule.
September is also the month when all the Cultural, International & Handicraft reports have to be sent to Group Office Bearers.
With us now being in a State-wide Lockdown, everything that was to be held in the next couple of weeks has been put on hold, including some fund-raising events of ours. Even though with Covid restrictions, our activities have been curtailed somewhat, we have still managed to do quite a bit of fund-raising. Each August, CWA Branches allocate their funds to various charities; for the year, we’ve given away over $3000, which for our small group of workers is commendable.
CWA Awareness Week is 5th – 11th of September, but with the present Covid Lockdown, we are unsure what we will be able to do at this stage. A sad fact is that there is a growing number of women in the +55 age group who are becoming homeless, so we hope to have someone speak on this at one of our meetings.
Our next meeting will be in Henty at Henty Central B&B at 10.30am on 15th September, and all are welcome to join us.
