On the 1st November, a beautiful spring morning, St Terence’s Catholic Church Urangeline was officially closed by Bishop Mark Edwards from the Wagga Wagga Diocese, assisted by Fr Henry Ibe and Fr Terence Mahedy.
At the conclusion of the last Celebration Mass, Bishop Mark Edwards presented the chalice to Patrick (Rick) Clancy, who is a direct descendent of Daniel Clancy who donated the chalice to St Terence’s Church in 1890. Rick then donated it back to Fr Terence Mahedy on behalf of the Clancy family to be kept safely in St Patrick’s Catholic Church Henty.
Fr Terence Mahedy’s family grew up at “Valera” Urangeline and when he was ordained a priest, he said his first mass at St Terence’s. After mass everyone enjoyed a brief history by local Chris Madden, and John (Chug) Kennedy recited his mother’s poem (Delma Kennedy nee Madden) “Mass at Urangeline Church in the 1940’s”.
The church and surrounds looked beautiful and even though it was a sad end, it was a wonderful day and will be remembered fondly by everyone who attended.
