Our Meeting was held in Henty, and we were thrilled to gain two more members, making a total of 5 new members for the year, so welcome all.

A letter of congratulations was received from Michael McCormack MP, for winning three State Community Service Awards this year. Our Mini Lamington Drives are proving very successful, so we are now adding Muffins as well.

Our Riverina Group Conference will be at Coolamon on 14th October, & we have a quite a few members going, however there are restrictions on numbers due to COVID.

We are raffling a RYOBI One Plus Extensions Kit, valued at nearly $200 which was kindly donated by Bunnings, and we will be drawing it early December at our Christmas Break-up. The tickets are $2.00 each, and all members have raffle books.

There was some discussion on the many elderly people who are isolated from their families due to COVID and the Border Crossings, so it was decided that we would combine with Orana Community Centre and provide some “Care packs” to these people, letting them know they are not forgotten. Anyone who would like to contribute lotions, snacks, crosswords, sudoku, puzzles etc, can either leave them at Dales IGA or contact Lyn on 0428690222. A big thank you must go to Dales IGA, Henty for their very generous contribution to these Care Packs. It was very much appreciated. Also, if you know of someone who would benefit from a pack please let us know, as the year has been very difficult for some people. Some Care Packs have been delivered to; Henty Hospital, Myoora Homestead, and the UPA homes.

Nett found a two-toned vest in a shop, which was in CWA Colours, so those of us that could get one in our size did so, and we had the CWA logo & PLEASANT HILLS embroidered on them, so we will look very efficient when we get back to catering etc.

We had a Land Cookery competition with a difference, which caused many laughs. Our Cookery Officer, Margaret had asked that everyone make a special effort to bake the Banana Bread, so she was very surprised when we had twelve entries! One member couldn’t buy ripe bananas, so took two slices of bread and a banana, beautifully arranged on a plate! After all, it was Banana & Bread! We all took pains judging these and the winner was our most junior member, Natalie Hasler, so congratulations Natalie! Second place went to Wendy Crosby and 3rd to Eunice McRae. In the Carrot & Ginger Loaf, 1st was Bev Frohling, 2nd Margaret Hasler & 3rd Lyn Jacobsen. The Plain Butter cake was won by Margaret, 2nd Lyn J. We also had the Special Section for Young Competitors; Butterfly Cakes was won by Louise Hasler and the Jam Drops was won by Natalie Hasler.

Next month we will again have three sections - Wagon Wheel Slice, Peach Blossom Cake and the special one to celebrate 70 years of The Land Newspaper sponsoring the cookery section, the Cherry Blush cake.

Our next meeting will be our Annual Meeting, and it will be in the Henty CWA Rooms at 10.30 am on 21st October – a week later than normal due to Conference being held on the 2nd Wednesday of the month.

We all enjoyed our take-away lunch together in the CWA Rooms and a chat, also taste-testing the delicious lemon butter that Wendy had supplied.
