Pleasant Hills CWA, although officially in recess, has still had several things happening. Since Christmas followed so closely after the distribution of the Pamper Packs, the large amount of money that was left over has been distributed since to the towns and CWA Groups where we sent the packs. We’ve asked that they use it in some way as drought support in their towns, be it vouchers or whatever. Some places have had rain, and whilst not drought breaking, it has certainly been morale boosting.
Marie Solyk attended a Group International Meeting in Wagga on our behalf, and we look forward to hearing about this at our next meeting. Eunice McRae & Lyn Jacobsen travelled to Mr & Mrs Hull’s home in Wagga to attend a special morning tea for ladies who had been CWA Members for over 50 years. We were both presented with special certificates. There was one lady present who’d been a CWA member for 74 years!
We will be entering in the CWA Exhibit at the Henty Show on February 8th. Our next meeting will be in Henty at the CWA Rooms at 10.30am on Wednesday, 12th February, and we would love to have some new faces join us as we go forward helping wherever we can.
CWA Disaster Relief
The NSW CWA Disaster Relief Fund is used only in Australia, & mainly in NSW. When donations come in, donors can put a notation to say where they would like the funds to go - drought/fires etc, and the committee takes note of that when making distribution decisions. The fund is predominantly being utilised for Drought Relief currently with bush fire relief available via branches. There are no administration fees taken from this fund. The Disaster Relief Fund is also tax deductable.
CWA has so far handed out over 15 million dollars since July 2018 to Drought Relief and helped just on 10,000 people and will continue doing so as long as we have funds donated for this purpose. Regarding Bushfires, I know Riverina Group has given several monetary donations to Bushfire victims this January in our area. We will also be discussing this at our next meeting to see what we can do.
