The government opened a Public School on 20th April 1891 with an enrolment of 18 pupils. By the end of the year, that number had increased to 33, causing immediate accommodation problems.
In the same year, the Pleasant Hills telephone exchange was installed. Postmaster Otto Sticker was officially placed in charge of the Pleasant Hills Post Office.
